SEO and SMO you can't have one without the other

Did you know that there is new evidence that SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SMO (Social Media Optimization) go together and that you can't have one without the other?

Maybe it's like those lyrics from Frank Sinatra's old song that say: "Love and marriage, love and marriage, go together like a horse and carriage,... you can't have none, you can't have one without the other."   Just substitute "SEO and SMO" for "Love and Marriage" and you can sing along... Please click on this link if you want to see all of the words to Frank's song: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/f/frank+sinatra/love+marriage_20056073.htmlRomeo World Championship Win Shot

I've found from my own experiences last year that especially now with the growth of high Google Page Ranked Social Media websites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn, that SEO and SMO do go together like a horse and carriage...And as shown in the picture, I do know a little bit about horses and carriages because my horse Romeo and I (with a lot of help from my son-in-law and horse trainer Chris Rickford of Rickford Training Stables) won the 1999 Morgan World Championships in Carriage Obstacle Driving.

In the January 30th edition of WebProNews, Chris Crum, Staff Writer wrote in his article "Customer Connections Now Important for Google Results": "If you are one of those people still skeptical about the business uses of social media, you may be interested to know that Google's Social Search is no longer just an experiment....

If people were already seeing different search results from one another before, that is really going to be true now, now that Google is plugging results based on the individuals social {media} circle into any given SERP {Search Engine Results Page}. This is one of the many ways SEO is changing, ..."  Please see his whole article at: http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2010/01/27/google-makes-social-even-more-of-a-search-factor.  Also comment on his question: "Have you established enough connections to do well in social search?"

If you need proof of the impact that 'Social Search" is having on search engine results, then please click on this link to see my Google profile: http://www.google.com/profiles/dewestfall. As a result of implementing an SMO strategy last year my www.dewpointe.com website is now #1 on a Google SERP for "Dave Westfall" (up from page 17 before) and by going "viral" I was able to create 1.1 million new references to my name and keywords. The impact of SMO on SEO and Google search results is one of the reasons why we created our managed services: www.SocialMedia-Outsourcing.com program for busy professionals to help them benefit from this growing trend.  We'll blog more about how you can't have SEO and SMO without the other in another post.
